Session One: Post Judgement Collection Practices - 1st Municipal and Law Divisions, Cook County, IL

Maryam Ahmad is a Cook County, Illinois Associate Judge who presides over the Post Judgment and Miscellaneous Remedies call, located in Chicago’s First Municipal Division.  Her previous judicial assignments include presiding in criminal and civil courtrooms throughout Cook County, Illinois. Illinois Associate Judge, Cook County

Hon. James E. Hanlon, Jr. is an Associate Judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. He was elected to the Circuit Court by the Cook County Circuit judges in 2018. While on the bench, Hanlon has held various assignments in the First Municipal District of the Municipal Department, principally in Room 1401. Read more


Session Two: stress in the workplace: the impact it has on our thinking
Approved for 1 CLE Credit & 1 Professional Responsibility Credit 

This session will discuss how stress and stressful conditions for lawyers and judges is a hazard of the legal profession and can lead to high levels of mental health and substance use disorders. When working under high levels of stress, our thinking and decision making can become impaired and less optimal. This presentation will help identify the most common errors in thinking and decision-making when under stress and provide practical proven approaches to avoiding them and achieving desired outcomes.

Joe Scally, MA, JD is Clinical Director at the Lawyers’ Assistance Program.  Joe is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois Law School.  He has practiced in state and federal courts in Illinois for many years.  Joe also has an M.A. in clinical psychology from DePaul University.  He interned at the Institute for Juvenile Research and did post graduate study in the Family Systems Program at UIC.
